Frequently asked questions

How is the future cost calculated?

Future cost = Present amount x (1 + inflation rate)^years. It compounds the current cost up by the inflation rate each year, so an amount that buys something today will cost more in future.

What is purchasing power?

Purchasing power is how much a fixed amount can actually buy. As prices rise, the same money buys less, so the calculator also shows what today's amount will be worth in future: Present amount / (1 + inflation rate)^years.
