Frequently asked questions
How is in-hand salary calculated from CTC?
CTC includes employer contributions, so take-home is lower. With India selected, this tool subtracts the employer's PF and gratuity to get your gross salary, then deducts your own PF (12% of Basic), professional tax and income tax to arrive at monthly in-hand pay.
How is take-home pay calculated in Australia?
Select Australia to switch to Australian rules. Take-home pay is your salary less PAYG income tax on the resident brackets, the 2% Medicare levy and any compulsory HECS-HELP repayment, with the low income tax offset applied to the tax. Employer super (12%) is paid into your fund on top and is not part of take-home pay.
Why is my actual take-home different?
Pay structures vary by employer — in India the split between Basic, HRA and allowances and the PF wage ceiling change the result; in Australia salary sacrifice, fringe benefits, deductions and the Medicare levy surcharge do. This is an estimate; check your offer letter or payslip for exact figures.
Which countries does this calculator support?
Every country in the currency menu: India, Australia, the UK (including the separate Scottish income tax bands), Ireland, the Netherlands, France, Singapore, the UAE, and the US and Canada at the federal level. Germany's income tax is available on the income tax calculator (its take-home is being finalised). Each is modelled on its own national tax rules and verified against the tax authority's published figures. For the US and Canada, state and provincial taxes are not included and are noted clearly.
