Frequently asked questions
- Does this make the file smaller?
- No - this changes the paper size of the pages, not the number of bytes. A page redrawn from Letter to A4 holds the same text and images, so the file size barely moves. If you want a smaller file, use Compress PDF or Compress PDF to Size instead.
- Will my links and form fields survive?
- Yes. Pages are resized in place rather than redrawn into a new document, so links, bookmarks, form fields and comments come across and are moved and scaled to match the content. That is the main difference from converters that flatten each page into a picture.
- What happens to landscape pages in a portrait document?
- With Orientation left on "Keep each page's", a landscape page becomes landscape A4 and a portrait page becomes portrait A4, so nothing is turned on its side. Choose Portrait or Landscape to force every page the same way round instead.
- Why is there a white border around my page?
- Because A4 and Letter are not the same shape. Fitting Letter content onto A4 scales it until the first edge touches, which leaves a thin band on the other axis. Set a margin of 0 and leave Content on Fit to page to keep that band as small as the two paper shapes allow.
- Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
- No. The file is opened, resized and saved entirely inside your browser tab, so a contract, invoice or private report never leaves your device.
