Frequently asked questions

Can I copy the text without downloading a file?
Yes. The extracted text appears in an editable box on the page, so you can read it, tidy it up and hit Copy to put it straight on your clipboard. Download .txt is there when you want the file, but it is optional.
What is the difference between flowing paragraphs and keeping line breaks?
A PDF stores each visual line separately, so a paragraph that wrapped across four lines arrives as four pieces. Flowing paragraphs stitches those back together, which is what you want for articles and letters. Keep line breaks leaves every line where it was, which is what you want for addresses, tables, code and poetry.
Why is nothing extracted from my scanned PDF?
A scan is a photograph of a page, so there are no characters in the file to extract - only pixels. Run it through the OCR PDF tool first to recognise the words and add a real text layer, then extract the text from the result.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The file is opened and read entirely in your browser, so a contract, statement or private report never leaves your device.
